Finding things out

Include software and resources that enable pupils to:

  • find, gather and review information from a variety of sources (for example, CD ROMs, internet sites)
  • enter, store, use and check the accuracy of information in a variety of forms (for example, internet sites, databases, spell check software)
  • retrieve, interpret and to check information is relevant (for example, CD ROM, internet)

Developing ideas and making things happen

Include software and resources that enable pupils to:

  • use text, tables, images and sound to develop and refine their ideas by bringing together and organising text, tables, images and sound as appropriate (for example, spreadsheets, word processing, desk top publishing and multimedia presentation)
  • create, test, improve and refine sequences of instructions to make things happen and to monitor events (for example, floor and screen turtles, control software and hardware, monitoring software and hardware)
  • try things out and explore what happens in real and imaginary situations, ask what if …? Questions, investigate and evaluate the effect of changing values and to identify patterns and relationships (for example image creating and processing, an adventure game, simulation software, spreadsheet models)

Exchanging and sharing information

Include software and resources that enable pupils to:

  • share, exchange and present information in a variety of forms, including email (word processing, desk top publishing, multimedia, presentation, film animation, musical composition software)
  • present their completed work effectively and to be sensitive to the needs of the audience and think carefully about the content and quality when communicating information
